The main assignment is to come prepared to discuss if not argue about tipping. Should we tip? Should we tip more? Is 20% the new 15%? How should we tip?
For background information and extra credit, read/listen to the following:
- Who gets the tip? It depends.
- Why do we tip?
Stories (Awkward and Otherwise):
- Tiffany at All Saints Gala
- Update on TSwift
- No cash at Cross
- Following up on a podcast link from March 25, again Andrew Heaton and friends gather to discuss Star Wars. This time they focus on how The Sith are Emo Fascists.
- Nat Eliason turned 30 and offers 40 Lessons from 30 Years.
- We should not overlook the value of not having what we don’t want. So argues David Epstein at Range Widely.
I’d offer Jams, but I think they’d just be Lost On You. See you Friday!
P.S. Unfortunately, technical difficulties prevented having a recording worthy of posting. It was an entertaining evening to say the least. The good news is everyone was fairly in agreement that: tipping is important, good servers should receive good tips, and a lot of the culture of tipping today is problematic in many aspects (e.g., too often asked, too much expected, too little connection between the giver and receiver, and too many untargeted interceptions from people (employers and coworkers) taking a cut).
As always, we applaud the waitstaff at The Library.
